NYU Accepted 12,307 Students for Class of 2023

After reading through nearly 85,000 admissions applications for its campuses in New York, Abu Dhabi, and Shanghai (a 12 percent increase over last year), NYU has as of today notified 12,307 prospective students of their acceptance to NYU's Class of 2023 at its New York campus.

The New York campus’ admitted class is the most diverse in NYU history: 12 percent are African American and 22 percent are Latinx. No ethnic group makes up more than 22 percent of the total students admitted to the New York campus. First generation college students comprise 18 percent of the accepted class.

Running counter to national trends, NYU’s US campus has also seen a significant increase in the number of international applications, exceeding 17,000 applications. Those admitted come from 88 countries and from all 50 states.

In addition to being the most diverse group of students to whom NYU has offered admission, the Class of 2023 is also the most selective to be admitted to the New York campus – 16% percent of applicants were offered admission, down from 35% as recently as 2013 – and had the highest median SAT score: 1480.

Applications increased at NYU’s Abu Dhabi and Shanghai campuses, as well as New York’s. The enrolled freshman class will number approximately 6,500 for fall 2019 across all NYU campuses – roughly equal in size to last year’s.
