Barnard Admitted 1,088 Students for Class of 2022

With an admissions rate of 13.7 percent, down from the class of 2021’s 14.8 percent, Barnard College’s class of 2022 will be the most selective in the college’s history.

The admissions office also received a greater number of applications than in any previous year: 7,897 students applied to the college, 993 of whom applied in the early decision cycle. Last year, just 7,716 students applied overall. Fifty-two percent of this year’s admitted students are women of color and 22 percent are first-generation college students.
In a press release announcing the admissions rate, Vice President for Enrollment Jennifer Fondiller, BC ’88, said that the students embodied the “Barnard spirit” and described the admitted class as thoughtful and driven.

The college’s acceptance rate has continued to drop over the last few years. Twenty-four percent of applicants were admitted to the class of 2018, 20 percent to the class of 2019, and 16 percent to the class of 2020.

Applicants were notified of their decisions Friday evening.
