Brown University has announced its class of 2016, a group 2,760 students from across the country and around the world.
The new Brown class represent 9.6 percent of a 28,742-member applicant pool.
The Office of College Admission at Brown University imade their offers at 5:00 pm for admission via the Web.
“We want to thank the nearly 29,000 students who gave us the privilege
of learning more about them and their extraordinary accomplishments,”
said James Miller, dean of admission. “The Class of 2016, drawn from
that remarkable pool of applicants, represents perhaps the most broadly
talented and diverse class in Brown’s history.”
Of the admitted class, nearly two-thirds applied for financial aid.
Currently, 47 percent of the Class of 2015 receives a need-based
scholarship award; the average award is approximately $37,800.
“I am delighted that from this talented group of students will emerge
the outstanding Class of 2016,” said President Ruth J. Simmons. “I am
particularly pleased that through the University’s commitment to
financial aid — having more than doubled the scholarship budget since
the 2004-05 academic year — we are able to meet the demonstrated
financial need of these students, ensuring that economic circumstances
are not a barrier in considering a Brown education.”
